COUNTERACTING THE SPREAD OF RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM IN THE YOUTH ENVIRONMENT

Background. Countering extremism in general and religious extremism in particular is one of the urgent tasks faced by law-enforcement agencies and bodies that ensure the national security of all countries of the world community. Almost every month, reports of extremist crimes appear in the media. And increasingly, the subjects of these atrocities are young people - well-off and not, well-educated and studying – high-school and university students. Everyone understands why criminals attract the most promising part of the population, because they have the future. That is why the article presents the results of a study of the concept, essence and specificity of religious extremism spread among young people, including through the Internet. The study was conducted to develop practical recommendations for the possible minimization of manifestations of religious extremism and its spread among young people.
Materials and methods. The research tasks were implemented on the basis of studying the legislation on combating extremism, law-enforcement practice, research materials of other scientists, studying the opinion of students of Penza region, by sampling and continuous surveys, and a thorough analysis of the survey results. The methodological basis of the research was the statistical and historical, comparative legal and logical methods, allowing to compare the essence and importance of certain categories and provisions of legal acts, to analyze the results of the survey.
Results. As a result of the research, practical recommendations for the possible minimization of manifestations of religious extremism and its spread among young people have been developed.
Conclusions. The study of the experience of countering the spread of religious extremism among young people and the analysis of the information obtained as a result of the survey of the student audience has led to the conclusion that it is necessary to improve domestic legislation and ways to prevent extremism.
